Weekly USMEF Audio Report: Pork Industry Partners Meet with Russian Business Media...
August 17, 2009 - A team of five business journalists from Russia visited the United States last week with the goal of learning more about the U.S. pork and beef industries and the current state of trade with Russia. One of the USMEF industry partners to meet with the group was Nebraska Pork Producers Association Executive Director Larry Sitzman. Sitzman discussed the programs and functions managed by NPPA, explained the importance of pork production and processing to Nebraska’s economy, and discussed several pressing issues currently affecting the industry.
The following day, the journalists met with members of the Iowa Pork Producers Association during opening day of the Iowa State Fair. Among the representatives was IPPA President-elect John Weber, who had visited Russia on a pork industry trade mission in 2007.
Both Sitzman and Weber described their meeting as a great opportunity to educate consumers in Russia about U.S. pork production and the industry’s efforts to provide Russia with a safe, consistent and reliable product.
