Audio: Limited Market Access in Asia Still Costly for U.S. Beef

Published: Jun 23, 2011
U.S. beef exports to Asia have surged dramatically in 2011. In the first four months of the year, year-over-year beef export value jumped by 67 percent, to nearly $750 million. Yet exports are still held back by product restrictions in several major markets, and no access to mainland China.

In this USMEF Audio report, Joel Haggard, senior vice president for the Asia Pacific region, speaks to USMEF producer-members on the importance of improving market access for U.S. beef in Asia. Despite remarkable gains in beef exports to Asia, market access restrictions are still very costly to the industry. This is especially true in China, where U.S. beef lacks any direct access.
