Published: Dec 21, 2007

The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has appointed Jim Herlihy as vice president ofInformation Services. Herlihy has extensive communications experience both in and outside the U.S. meat industry.

Herlihy served as vice president of Communications and Public Relations for global pork and beef processor Swift & Company from 2001-2005. Most recently he ran his own public relations consulting firm whose clients included Northwest Airlines.

“What the members want are candid assessments of the markets. Jim Herlihy will communicate the realities — what’s going on and why,” said USMEF President and CEO Philip Seng. “His accomplishments and judgment have been amply proven by a very successful career in dealing with both the mundane and the crisis. With Herlihy at the helm, our communications will rise to the next level. Our stakeholders are deluged with information from a plethora of sources, but USMEF communications will be pointed, frank and of immediate, practical use.”

A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Herlihy has more than 30 years of communications experience at global public relations firms, colleges and universities, and with the news media.  A native of Chicago, he will be based at USMEF’s Denver headquarters.

The U.S. Meat Export Federation (www.USMEF.org) is the trade association responsible for developing international markets for the U.S. red meat industry and is funded by USDA, exporting companies, and the beef, pork, corn, sorghum and soybean checkoff programs.
