U.S. exporting errors have been recent news when talking about South Korea, but those passing issues should not overshadow the many positives for U.S. beef and pork exports to Korea, according to Jihae (GEE-hay) Yang, director of the U.S. Meat Export Federation office in Seoul.

Not only are Korean grocery stores and restaurants anxious to carry more supplies of U.S. beef, consumers are also looking forward to its lower price.

Meanwhile, U.S. pork exports to South Korea increased 52 percent last year. Some have speculated that the return of U.S. beef will decrease that growth, but Yang has a different theory.

U.S. pork benefits from a lower price compared to domestic pork without a reduction in quality. Yang says that along with a decreasing domestic production bodes well for U.S. pork.

The U.S. Meat Export Federation is the trade association responsible for developing international markets for the U.S. red meat industry and is funded by USDA, exporting companies, and the beef, pork, lamb, corn, sorghum and soybean checkoff programs.
