USDA Investigates BSE Case

USDA announced Tuesday, Dec. 23, that a single case of BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy, commonly known as "mad cow disease") has been diagnosed in a Washington State dairy cow. When the cow went to slaughter on Dec. 9, it showed signs of a neurological disorder. A brain sample was sent to U.S.epidemiologists for testing. All U.S.tests have come back positive for BSE and the samples have been sent to the Weybridge lab in the United Kingdom for final confirmation.
