TOKYO – Japan’s leading industry trade publication, Shokuhein Songyo Shimbun, recognized U.S. Meat Export Federation efforts to promote meat consumption in this country by presenting the trade organization with its highest award during ceremonies here December 2.
USMEF’s nationally-recognized marketing efforts in Japan have been mostly responsible for the tremendous growth in beef and pork imports to Japan, the newspaper said, and the accelerated rate of growth, especially in the past 15 years, has made the United States the recognized market leader. The paper cited USMEF for its "complete understanding of the market and for its creativity in appealing to Japanese consumers and the trade."
USMEF President and CEO Philip Seng accepted the award on behalf of the trade association and the entire U.S. red meat industry and complemented the Japanese for their strict adherence to quality, customer service and marketing.
"Because the U.S. industry first worked in Japan and had to meet your exacting standards," Seng said, "U.S. exporters have achieved a level of quality and customer service that has enabled them to be successful in other markets throughout the world."
USMEF was the first trade association to be honored by the prestigious Shokuhein Songyo Shimbun in the 30-year history of this awards program.
The U.S. Meat Export Federation is the trade association responsible for developing international markets for the U.S. red meat industry and is funded by USDA, exporting companies, and the beef, pork, corn, sorghum and soybean checkoff programs.
