The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) honored James A. (“Jim”) Mullins with its Distinguished Service Award at the USMEF Board of Directors Strategic Planning and Marketing Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona, yesterday. The award is presented to outstanding figures in the red meat industry who exemplify the exceptional, individual dedication which has brought about the federation’s success.

Mullins of Corwith, Iowa, was USMEF Chairman in 1994 after serving twice on the USMEF Executive Committee. Before serving as USMEF Chairman, Mullins served as USMEF’s representative on the Beef Industry Long Range Planning Committee and was a fervent advocate of the beef checkoff program and worked tirelessly in the campaign to establish it.

Mullins is a well-liked and respected leader in the livestock industry, who has held numerous key positions in local, state and national organizations.

The USMEF Executive Committee presented him with the award to recognize him as “a strong and principled visionary working for positive change and to improve the viability of the entire livestock industry.”

The U.S. Meat Export Federation is the trade association responsible for developing international markets for the U.S. red meat industry and is funded by USDA, exporting companies, and the beef, pork, corn, sorghum and soybean checkoff programs.
