Suggested Lead: Rising global population and an increasing number of free trade agreements coupled with abundant domestic supply provides the U.S. meat industry a wide range of international opportunities, according to U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) President and CEO Philip M. Seng, who spoke last week at the International Meat Secretariat (IMS) World Meat Congress in Brisbane, Australia.
Seng said one way of determining the current factors facing an industry is to do a self-analysis to identify strengths and weaknesses, most often associated with forces within the industry, and opportunities and threats, which are external.
Animal traceability, an application of science and a worldwide outlook will help the U.S. meat industry work together with its global partners to address trade-disruptive issues.
The U.S. Meat Export Federation is the trade association responsible for developing international markets for the U.S. red meat industry and is funded by USDA, exporting companies, and the beef, pork, lamb, corn, sorghum and soybean checkoff programs.
