Suggested Lead: As U.S. beef returns to the Japanese market, the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) is at the forefront working to regain confidence among the trade and consumers

USMEF President and CEO Philip M. Seng talks about the current beef trade conditions in Japan and the role USMEF plays.

The first shipment of U.S. beef arrived in Japan and cleared customs without delay on Monday (Aug. 7), which is a positive step for the U.S. industry, according to Seng.

USMEF is working to restore consumer confidence in U.S. beef, but Seng says Japanese consumers are wary of many imported products.

The USMEF message “We Care” is guiding efforts to regain confidence in U.S. beef among Japanese consumers.

The U.S. beef industry produces a high quality product and USMEF is working to put U.S. beef back on the world’s table.

The U.S. Meat Export Federation is the trade association responsible for developing international markets for the U.S. red meat industry and is funded by USDA, exporting companies, and the beef, pork, lamb, corn, sorghum and soybean checkoff programs.
