Suggested Lead: Cancun, Mexico, is the site this week of the U.S. Meat Export Federation’s (USMEF) annual planning meeting. Chad Russell is the USMEF regional director of Mexico and the Dominican Republic. He says Mexico is a logical location for this year’s sessions.

According to Russell, NAFTA is one of the reasons for the growth of U.S. beef and pork exports to Mexico.

In addition to aggressive promotional activities, Russell says one of the roles for USMEF in Mexico is assurance of market access.

According to Russell, there is still plenty of potential in the Mexico market.

The U.S. Meat Export Federation is the trade association responsible for developing international markets for the U.S. red meat industry and is funded by USDA, exporting companies, and the beef, pork, lamb, corn, sorghum and soybean checkoff programs.
