Seng Statement on S. Korea Beef Market Resumption

Published: Sep 08, 2006

Philip M. Seng, U.S. Meat Export Federation President and CEO
Issued Sept. 8, 2006 in Seoul, South Korea

The U.S. Meat Export Federation is pleased that the Korean government has announced the resumption of U.S. beef import eligibility after a review of U.S. beef safety systems and protocols.

We believe that the last two years and nine months was a valuable period for us to complement and reinforce our safety system to further minimize the BSE risk and to ensure Korean consumers are supplied wholesome and safe beef. The U.S. has strict safety measures in every producing process to ensure the greatest safety.

USMEF believes that the U.S. beef import resumption will give an opportunity to Korean consumers to choose safe and high quality beef. The U.S. industry will continue to do its best for Korean consumers to trust and enjoy U.S. beef.
