Seng Sees Opportunity in Russian Bilateral Agreement: Part I
The signing this week of a bilateral trade agreement between the U.S. and Russia will be a boon to U.S. livestock and meat producers. That according to U.S. Meat Export Federation President and CEO Phil Seng, who says the first step for getting beef moving again to that country will mean allowing Russians access to U.S. plants.
According to Seng, the structure of the new agreement is an improvement over old ones.
Seng says additional steps are needed before product can begin moving.
Even during difficult times, the opportunities in the Russian market have not escaped notice.
Seng says some producers and exporting companies in the U.S. had nearly given up hope on the Russian market, but that the new agreement should provide some consolation for waiting on a beneficial agreement.
The U.S. Meat Export Federation is the trade association responsible for developing international markets for the U.S. red meat industry. It is funded by USDA, exporting companies, and the beef, pork, lamb, corn, sorghum and soybean checkoff programs.
