“The U.S. Meat Export Federation is pleased the Japanese market is again open to beef from the United States. Our beef now is one of the most scrutinized foods ever to be imported into Japan. This has been a trying time for U.S. and Japanese industries. We look forward to winning back the confidence of the many Japanese companies and individuals who have both relied on and enjoyed our products for nearly three decades.
“The government of Japan, through its Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), and Ministry of Health Labor and Welfare (MHLW), has completed another exhaustive review of U.S. food safety protocols and has concluded that the U.S. industry consistently produces safe and wholesome products. Today’s announcement by MHLW that Japan is again open to U.S. beef should be the signal to Japanese consumers that they can be confident in our products.
“We wish to thank the Japanese officials who have so thoughtfully and thoroughly reviewed U.S. beef safety systems and protocols and found them meeting or exceeding their high standards. We also wish to thank our many customers and friends who have stood beside us during this rigorous examination.
“USMEF looks forward to working with our many friends in the retail and restaurant industries to promote our products through demonstrations, seminars and other venues. These efforts – identified by bright red “We Care” logos and the “We Care Promise” – will launch almost immediately to help Japanese consumers again identify the great taste, consistent high quality and great value in U.S. beef.”
