Published: Oct 31, 2011
The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) will conduct a press conference/media conference call on Thursday, Nov. 3, from the USMEF Strategic Planning Conference in Tucson, Ariz. The conference call will begin at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time (6:30 a.m. local time) at the Hilton El Conquistador Hotel’s Mesquite Room. The session will feature brief comments from outgoing USMEF Chairman Keith Miller, incoming USMEF Chair Danita Rodibaugh, USMEF President and CEO Philip Seng and several of USMEF’s international directors.

Introductory statements will touch on the latest issues affecting U.S. beef, pork and lamb exports and global meat trade, including newly enacted free trade agreements, global and regional consumer demand trends and the competitive landscape facing U.S. meat exports. Following these remarks, questions will be taken from participating media. We will try to accommodate all questions, but must limit the call to one hour due to a busy conference agenda.

Participants should call 1-866-519-2804 and enter passcode 770447.

If you are calling from an area that cannot access this toll-free number, please dial 1-719-234-7307 and use the same passcode.

This will not be an operator-assisted call, so please mute your phone (*6) until the question-and-answer period begins. When asking a question, please unmute your phone (also *6) and provide the panel with your name and the name of your news outlet.

If you have questions about the press conference, please contact Joe Schuele at jschuele@usmef.org, (303) 226-7309 (office) or (303) 547-0030 (mobile). No registration or RSVP is required, but a courtesy e-mail informing us of your plans to participate would be appreciated.

Reporters planning to attend the USMEF Strategic Planning Conference in person are asked to please contact us in advance and check in at the conference registration desk upon arrival. The conference agenda is available at www.usmef.org. Guest speakers include Cornell University economist Dr. Harry Kaiser, who recently completed a return-on-investment study of USMEF’s export market development programs; Bill Rupp, president of JBS USA’s beef division, and John Bellinger, CEO of Agri-West International, will offer their thoughts on the role exports play in the profitability of the U.S. meat industry; Gary Pfeiffer, executive vice president of Superior Farms, will provide a U.S. lamb industry update; and Donald Butler, director of the Arizona Department of Agriculture, who served as USMEF chairman in 1983-84, will address USMEF’s general membership.
