Beef Board chairman comments on foreign marketing success

As the Cattle Industry Summer Conference wrapped up Saturday, July 19,  in Denver, Cattlemen’s Beef Board Chairman Dave Bateman – a cattle producer from Oregon, Illinois – said the Cattlemen’s Beef Board and the Federation of State Beef Councils face very difficult budgeting priorities this year.

But Bateman said one of the programs that really stands out for cattlemen is the success achieved in foreign marketing. (Beef exports in the first five months of 2008 increased by almost 30 percent in volume and almost 40 percent in value over the same period a year ago.) Bateman says this surge in beef exports has been extremely important to the cattle industry this year.
