U.S. Pork And Beef Exports Through August Increase In Volume And Value
U.S. pork and pork variety meat exports through August increased 9 percent in volume to 831,545 metric tons (mt) and 5 percent in value to $1.8 billion compared to the same period last year. Mexico was the largest export market by volume, increasing 16 percent to 244,642 mt while Japan was the top market in value at $667.7 million.
Growth markets include South Korea as volume increased 58 percent to 70,932 mt and value 41 percent to $145.2 million and Russia as volume increased 90 percent to 52,401 mt and value 108 percent to $100.4 million.
U.S. beef and beef variety meat exports through August increased 38 percent in volume to 414,080 mt and 50 percent in value to $1.28 billion compared to the same period last year. Mexico was the No. 1 market as volume increased 34 percent to 241,810 mt and value 39 percent to $770 million.
In the Middle East, the third-largest market, volume increased 271 percent to 53,821 mt and value 115 percent to $75 million while triple-digit increases also were recorded in the Dominican Republic as volume increased 134 percent to 1,293 mt and value 109 percent to $5.6 million.
U.S. beef and beef variety meat exports to Japan through August were 4,773 mt with a value of $25.2 million, making Japan the seventh-largest export market on a value basis.
