January U.S. Pork Exports Increase 19 Percent In Volume, 33 Percent In Value

U.S. pork (including variety meat) exports were 20 percent higher in volume — 102,071 metric tons (mt) — in January 2006 compared to January 2005, and 14 percent higher in value at $217.8 million. U.S. pork (including variety meat) exports to Japan were 2 percent lower in volume (25,086 mt) and 3 percent higher in value ($78.9 million) compared to January 2005. 

U.S. pork (including variety meat) exports to Mexico, the No. 1 market in tonnage, rose 27 percent in volume to 35,159 mt and 16 percent in value to $51.4 million.

U.S. Beef Exports In January 2006 Up 42 Percent Over January 2005

According to the USDA, U.S. beef (including variety meat) exports for January 2006 totaled 48,116 metric tons (mt) compared with 33,886 mt in January 2005, a 42 percent increase. The value rose from $91.1 million in January 2005 to $155.1 million. The No. 1 market was Mexico — 29,121 metric tons valued at $102.7 million.
