Mexico Leads Beef Export Markets
More than half of all U.S. beef (including variety meat) exported in the first four months of 2004 went to Mexico (17,639 metric tons (mt), valued at $57.4 million) and the European Union (14,577 mt, valued at $9.6 million). U.S. beef (including variety meat) exports for Jan.-April 2004 totaled only 53,318 mt compared with 397,568 mt in Jan.-April 2003. The value of exports fell from $1.119 billion to $114.2 million.

Jan.-April U.S. Pork Exports Up 41 Percent In Volume, 37 Percent In Value
U.S. pork (including variety meat) exports were 41 percent higher in volume (328,695 mt) in Jan.-April 2004 compared to Jan.-April 2003, and 37 percent higher in value at $678.4 million. U.S. pork (including variety meat) exports to Japan were 8 percent higher in volume (104,332 mt) and 15 percent higher in value ($320.5 million), but Mexico was the No. 1 market with a 97 percent increase in volume to 110,200 mt and a 102 percent increase in value to $154.8 million.
