USMEF to Participate on TPP Trade Panel May 19

The World Trade Center of Denver is hosting its 43rd Annual World Trade Day event on Thursday, May 19. This year’s theme is “Exploring Your Trans-Pacific Partners.” A full agenda and other details are available online.
Progress on ratification of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) promises to be one of the event’s most prominent topics, especially with regard to the TPP’s impact on agricultural trade. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is a keynote speaker, and Thad Lively, USMEF senior vice president for trade access, will serve on a discussion panel titled, “TPP's Impact on Global Trade and NAFTA.”
“There is a lot of concern in the agricultural community about a lack of momentum for TPP and whether it will gain enough support for congressional approval,” Lively said. “Obviously the USMEF membership – which passed a resolution last year in unanimous support of TPP – shares these concerns. This is the type of event that can help educate the public about the benefits of TPP, and USMEF was pleased to receive an invitation to participate.”
