USMEF Teams with Nippon Food for U.S. Beef Seminar in Western Japan
As part of its effort to grow U.S. market share in all regions of Japan, USMEF conducted a company-specific U.S. beef seminar in Kagoshima on March 10. Kagoshima, with a population of more than 600,000, is located on Kyusyu, Japan’s third-largest and westernmost island.Supported by the Beef Checkoff Program and the Market Access Program, the seminar was a cooperative effort with Nippon Food - a subsidiary of Japan’s largest meat processor and distributor, Nippon Ham.
The seminar specifically targeted Nippon Foods’ younger sales staff, many of whom lack experience in handling and merchandising U.S. beef. About 50 staff members from Nippon’s regional office attended.
USMEF’s Takemichi Yamashoji conducts a beef cutting demonstration for sales staff of Nippon Food
USMEF took the opportunity to illustrate the attributes and advantages of U.S. beef products, including key points that will be most effective in reaching retail buyers. USMEF-Japan’s Takemichi Yamashoji conducted a cutting demonstration using U.S. beef chuck eye roll.
USMEF is planning similar educational seminars in other locations in western and southern Japan, including Okayama, Fukuoka, Kochi and Okinawa. When this series concludes in May, about 500 regional staff members of Nippon Food are expected to have completed the U.S. beef seminar.
