Japanese Pork Imports Up

Japan imported 58,419 mt of pork in October, 8.7 percent higher than October 2001, according to figures just released by the Japanese government. Danish pork accounted for 25,020 mt while imports of U.S. pork totaled 14,108 mt. The U.S. led the way in chilled pork imports — 9,502 mt out of a total of 14,686 mt.

Japanese Beef Imports Down 

Japan’s beef imports fell 36.2 percent in October, compared to October 2001, to 39,644 mt, according to figures just released by the Japanese government. Imports of U.S. beef totaled 15,595 mt, while Australian imports totaled 22,669 mt.
