USMEF Showcases U.S. Beef, Pork at Thailand Exhibition
Utilizing support from the Beef Checkoff and Pork Checkoff programs, USMEF exhibited a variety of beef and pork products at the THAIFEX – World Food of Asia 2009 exhibition May 13-15 in Bangkok, Thailand.
THAIFEX featured 988 exhibitors from 21 countries, and attracted about 21,000 industry guests from 104 nations. In addition to local industry visitors and those from neighboring ASEAN countries, China, India and several Middle East markets were also represented. Total attendance at the event approached 78,000.
“This is USMEF’s second time exhibiting at THAIFEX,” said Sabrina Yin, USMEF director for the ASEAN region. “We have previously participated in the International Food & Hospitality Show, which mainly targets the hospitality industry. But THAIFEX offers an additional opportunity to reach out to the other food sectors such as processing, mass catering and retail, which are growing rapidly in this region.”

Due to Thailand’s current suspension of raw U.S. pork, only cooked pork products such as smoked brats, cooked brats, Polish sausage, hot links and cheddar smoked sausages were displayed. Beef products featured included ribeyes, rib fingers, short ribs, chuck tenders and striploins.
“We received many inquiries about U.S. beef from trade sector representatives from the food and beverage sector,” said Yin. “Despite the current suspension on fresh pork, importers also showed strong interest in U.S. pork products.”
The next THAIFEX is scheduled for May 12-16, 2010, at the same location.
