USMEF Officers Take to the Airwaves at NAFB Convention

Turn on a farm radio station anywhere in the nation over the next few days, and there is a good chance you’ll hear USMEF Chairman Jon Caspers or USMEF Vice Chairman Keith Miller discussing meat exports. On Nov. 13, Caspers and Miller conducted dozens of interviews at the National Association of Farm Broadcasting’s annual “NAFB Trade Talk” event in Kansas City.

Trade Talk is a key component of NAFB’s annual convention, drawing trade associations, commodity organizations, manufacturers, distributors and vendors from all sectors of agriculture. But the unique aspect that sets NAFB Trade Talk apart from other trade shows is the steady parade of broadcasters that conduct radio and television interviews throughout the day. Most are recorded for later airing, but some interviews are broadcast live from the convention hall.

USMEF Vice Chairman Keith Miller speaks with Ken Anderson of the Waitt AgriBusiness Network

“Attendance was just outstanding this year,” said Caspers, who had previously participated in the event on behalf of the National Pork Producers Council. “The broadcasters kept us busy the entire day, so it was really a great opportunity to spread USMEF’s message.”

Added Miller, “It’s just so important to inform the farmers and ranchers who support USMEF about our outstanding programs and the results we are achieving. This is a great way to reach out to every region of the country and let them know how important it is to invest in international markets.”

Throughout the day, Caspers and Miller discussed the latest pork and beef export results, export opportunities in emerging markets, the impact of recent global financial difficulties on U.S. exports, as well as the top goals and priorities for their terms as USMEF officers.
