USMEF Hosts Danish Ag Minister for Firsthand Look at U.S. Beef Industry

USMEF hosted a seven-person delegation from Denmark last week for an in-depth tour of Colorado’s beef industry. Led by Kjer Hansen, Denmark’s food and agriculture minister, the group opened its visit at a Five Rivers Cattle Feeding facility near Greeley. This was followed by a tour of the JBS beef plant in Greeley, where the group also received a briefing on pathogen reduction technologies (PRTs) from representatives of Birko Corporation.

“I always like to get a better knowledge about what's going on in the States,” Hansen told the Greeley Tribune. “The purpose of my visit… is also to see how we can improve trade between Europe and the United States.”

Following a steak lunch at Meyer Natural Angus in Loveland, afternoon stops included a visit to Aristocrat Angus Ranch near Platteville and a meeting with Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture John Stulp.

“We had the opportunity to discuss some very important trade issues with Minister Hansen, and the visit allowed her delegation to gain a valuable perspective on the production and processing practices for high-quality U.S. beef,” said Thad Lively, USMEF senior vice president for policy, planning and research. “The U.S. beef industry has some exciting new trade opportunities with the European Union, and this was a great way to showcase the industry to one of Europe’s key agricultural officials.”
