USMEF Hires Beijing China Gov't Affairs Director, Promotes Others

USMEF Hires China Government Affairs Director in Beijing, Denver-based Executive Services Director; Promotes Domurat to Senior Vice President and Shea to Director, Finance

Ms. Jianwen Liu has joined USMEF as Director of Government Affairs and Analysis in China. A former member of China’s Ministry of Agriculture staff and a consultant in China for leading corporations, Liu served as director for the Office of Agricultural Research Project Management & Liaison in China’s Ministry of Agriculture for eight years.

“We look forward to Ms. Liu adding to our understanding of China’s livestock and agriculture sector and marketplace,” said Joel Haggard, USMEF senior vice president for the Asia-Pacific region. “She will spearhead our effort to enhance relationships with key Chinese government ministries and organizations as well as with research and academic organizations and industry groups.”

Liu, who will be in attendance at the USMEF Strategic Planning Conference in Tucson Nov. 2-4, will work in collaboration with Donald Song, who will take on additional responsibilities in developing new U.S. red meat import business through an intensified effort to cultivate beef and pork buyer loyalty among importers, distributors and meat processors.

Liu, who will be based in Beijing, earned her doctorate in agricultural economics and management with a focus on international trade from Huazhong Agricultural University in China, where she also earned her bachelor’s degree. She has a graduate certificate of applied economics and trade from Cornell University.

In another notable staffing announcement, Jody Falletta Carman joins USMEF-Denver as Director, Executive Services after seven years with the USA Rice Federation, including the last five years as regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean. She previously served as manager of international investment for the Colorado Office of Economic Development, and consultant for the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Emerging Markets Development Program in Amman, Jordan.

Earlier in her career, Carman worked for USMEF for nearly six years, serving as manager of program evaluation and Asia-Pacific marketing specialist. She is a founding board member of the Pan-American Innovation and Economic Research (PIER) Institute. She earned an MBA degree from the University of Colorado and a bachelor’s degree in foreign service from Georgetown University.

Janel Domurat has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Operations following a 19-year career with USMEF, most recently as vice president, administration. Domurat has managed USMEF’s accounting and finance department, as well as all administrative and human resource functions, domestically and internationally.

“Janel brings a wealth of experience to both the strategic and functional levels of the organization, having demonstrated tremendous leadership skills and a proven ability to manage internal controls, projects and people. Her commitment to the organization and our goals is truly unparalleled, and she is eminently qualified to assume this new strategic and operational role,” said Seng.

USMEF’s Kate Shea has been promoted to Director, Finance following a 20-year career with USMEF. Shea was formerly assistant director, finance in the Denver office. Shea’s responsibilities include all monthly financial reporting and compliance with funding source contracts. Shea manages the Denver accounting staff and is the direct liaison with the international accounting team.

“Kate’s experience and breadth of knowledge with both our funding sources and our domestic and international staff have made her an invaluable resource to USMEF,” said Seng. “She has demonstrated her unwavering commitment to USMEF over her many years of service.”
