USMEF Highlights Importance of Meat Exports at Minnesota Ag Expo

This week crop and livestock producers from across Minnesota had a great opportunity to learn about how red meat exports impact their bottom line as USMEF participated in Minnesota Ag Expo, held Jan. 27-28 at the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato. The event is hosted annually by the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association and Minnesota Corn Growers Association.

USMEF was represented at Ag Expo by Chair-elect Bruce Schmoll, a soybean and corn producer from Claremont, Minnesota. He was accompanied by USMEF staff members Tammy Connolly and Lindsay Dick. The team shared information about USMEF’s efforts to expand global demand for U.S. beef, pork and lamb, and distributed samples of Japanese pork curry to trade show attendees. Schmoll also conducted interviews with several farm broadcasters and local media covering the event.

“Minnesota Ag Expo was an important step forward for USMEF in reaching out to the foundation of our organization – our members,” Schmoll said. “Producers were excited to learn about the market development programs we are implementing across the globe, and it was also a great opportunity to discuss the growing level of competition we face and the need to adapt to the needs and concerns of our international customers. If handing out more than 400 servings of Japanese pork curry samples is any indication, the message was well-received.”

In addition to the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council and the Minnesota Corn Research and Promotion Council, USMEF receives support from a broad range of agricultural organizations in the state. The Minnesota Pork Board, Minnesota Beef Council, Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation and Minnesota Department of Agriculture are also longtime members of USMEF.
