Volume Of Pork Exports Up

U.S. pork (including variety meat) exports were 2 percent higher in volume (174,546 mt) in the first quarter of 2003, compared to the same quarter in 2002, and 2 percent lower in value ($370.2 million). U.S. pork muscle exports totaled 138,028 mt, a 6 percent increase, valued at $333.7 million, 2 percent lower than the first quarter of 2002, according to just-released USDA figures. U.S. pork (including variety meat) exports to Japan were 6 percent higher in volume (71,452 mt) and 8 percent lower in value ($202.3 million), compared to the first quarter of 2002.
