U.S. Beef Exports Record Increase In First Quarter

U.S. beef (including variety meat) exports were 1 percent higher in volume (299,981 mt) in the first quarter of 2003, compared to the same quarter in 2002, and 9 percent higher in value ($837.9 million). U.S. beef muscle exports totaled 197,889 mt, a 2 percent increase, valued at $683.7 million, 13 percent higher than the first quarter of 2002, according to just-released USDA figures. U.S. beef (including variety meat) exports to Japan were 9 percent higher in volume (91,015 mt) and 23 percent higher in value ($305.2 million), year-on-year.
