USMEF-Singapore Promotes U.S. Meat At Prominent Indonesian Trade Exhibition

USMEF-Singapore handed out freshly-cooked U.S beef and pork samples to 14,000 Indonesian visitors from April 2 – 5, 2003 at the Food & Hotel Indonesia Exhibition in Jakarta. At least 110 companies attended the exhibition, primarily from the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, and the Southeast Asian region. USMEF Regional Chef and Foodservice Consultant Sabrina Yin cooked fresh meat samples on site for visitors to taste, and the two-booth USMEF display included specific U.S. beef and pork promotional items for Jakarta – such as U.S. beef cut charts and information sheets on U.S. processed and variety meats translated into the Indonesian language. Indonesian importers of U.S. beef and pork were also on hand at the USMEF booth to greet their customers and help promote U.S. meat sales in Jakarta.

Security concerns due to the current political climate towards Americans in the primarily Muslim area caused the U.S. Agricultural Trade Office booth and the USAPEEC booths to remain unmanned, but USMEF ASEAN Manager Eric Choon commented that USMEF attendance proved very useful for U.S. meat trade. USMEF received many positive comments from dozens of booth visitors after distributing consumer and trade questionnaires; several new trade prospects expressed interest in importing more U.S meat.
