USDA Announces BEV For Mexico
USDA’s Agriculture Marketing Service (AMS) announced on Friday, March 5 that a new Beef Export Verification Program (BEV) would now be available to companies interested in exporting to Mexico to verify that the products meet the Mexican requirements.
On Wednesday, March 3, Mexico announced that it would re-open its border to boneless, intact muscle cut items derived from cattle less than 30 months of age under an audit-based program.
Companies will need to be in conformance with the Quality Systems Assurance (QSA) Program from AMS. Companies that had a BEV Program in place prior to this will only have to make minor amendments to meet the new QSA Program requirements as well as address the BEV Program for Mexico requirements. Companies that did not have a BEV Program in place will need to develop a QSA Program and present the documentation to AMS for verification.
AMS has now posted the specific requirements on its website and these can be accessed at:
Quality Systems Assurance Program

These websites list contact information at AMS for individuals which can answer questions relating to the new Mexican Requirements.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is currently drafting language to meet the Mexico beef export requirements for addition to the Export Library. These should be completed this week.
