U.S. Pork Products Gain Final Clearance for Entry into China

U.S. pork products with a pack date of May 1, 2010, or later have been given official clearance for export to the People’s Republic of China. An update reflecting this change was posted in the FSIS Export Library this afternoon.

Final clearance of these products, which include natural casings, comes as very welcome news. The original announcement of resumption of U.S. pork exports to China was made in mid-March, but final details regarding import certificates were not completely resolved until today.

Efforts are being made to reach agreement with China on an earlier pack date – the U.S. government has specifically requested a pack date of March 24, 2010. For the time being, however, May 1 is the eligible pack date. If you have product impacted by the May 1 pack date and would like to lend support for moving it to March 24, please contact Kevin Smith of USMEF Export Services at ksmith@usmef.org or 303-623-6328.
