U.S. Pork, Beef Command Strong Attention at Sochi Trade Show

One of Russia’s top tourist destinations was the setting recently for the ninth annual Sochi Trade Exhibition entitled “Industry of Hospitality and Entertainment.” Located along the Black Sea coast in southwestern Russia, Sochi is a resort city with a population of about 400,000.

The trade show, featuring about 100 exhibitors, attracted more than 5,200 chefs, restaurateurs, hotel operators and foodservice executives. With support from the Beef Checkoff Program and the Pork Checkoff, USMEF participated jointly with East-West, one of Russia’s largest HRI and retail distributors.

The highlight of the event was a four-hour culinary demonstration and seminar conducted by USMEF on the attributes of U.S. pork and beef. Chef Roman Burtsev of East-West presented two appealing pork dishes using pork tenderloin and boneless pork loin, and conducted additional cooking demonstrations with top-quality beef middle meats.

On the day following the main exhibition, USMEF and East-West held an extended off-site seminar on U.S. pork and beef for specific invitees. This presentation, held at the five-star Marin’s Park Hotel, featured high-quality middle meats but also highlighted alternative cuts of pork and beef.

Sochi lies at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains, and is preparing to play host to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. The Greater Sochi Region attracts hundreds of thousands of vacationers with beaches, mineral springs, sanatoriums and other attractions along a 90-mile stretch of coastline.
