House Committee Approves MAP And FMD
Funding For FY 2003
The House Appropriations Committee on Friday approved the fiscal year (FY) 2003 Agriculture Appropriations bill. Under the legislation, the Market Access Program (MAP) is funded at $110 million and the Foreign Market Development (FMD) fund at $34.5 million, as authorized by the 2002 Farm Bill. The bill could be considered on the House floor in the next two weeks and is subject to amendments that could be aimed at reducing MAP or FMD funding.
USMEF’s MAP allocation from the $90 million available for FY 2002 was announced two weeks ago. With $8,503,362, USMEF is the largest recipient of MAP funds for the fourth successive year. The Farm Bill also added $10 million to the MAP funding for FY 2002, and USMEF has applied for a further allocation from this additional funding which will be allocated later this summer.
