U.S. Beef, Pork Showcased at Food, Hotel & Tourism Bali
U.S. beef and pork won positive reviews from many of the 6,000 visitors to the seventh Food, Hotel & Tourism Bali, a biennial exhibition of food and beverage products, services and equipment held this month in Nusa Dua, a resort city on the island of Bali, Indonesia’s most popular tourist destination. The event attracted more than 400 exhibitors from across the world and restaurant and hotel personnel from Indonesia and neighboring countries.
USMEF showcased a wide range of U.S. beef products, including striploin, short ribs, ribeye, tenderloin, top blade muscle, flank steak and hanging tender.
“We received excellent feedback on the tenderness and flavor of both Prime and Choice products,” said USMEF-ASEAN Director Sabrina Yin.

U.S. pork products featured included pre-cooked bacon and a wide variety of sausages.
“The pork items were also very popular,” Yin said. “Visitors sampling the precooked bacon were especially impressed with its great texture, which is much less chewy than similar products they tried in the past.”
U.S. beef/beef variety meat exports to Indonesia posted impressive gains last year, jumping more than 40 percent in volume and 25 percent in value over 2008. Year-end totals were 4,328 metric tons (9.5 million pounds) valued at $5.9 million. Indonesia was closed to U.S. pork for much of 2009 due to concerns about A-H1N1 influenza. However, Indonesia announced a lifting of these restrictions earlier this month.
USMEF’s participation was made possible through support from the Beef Checkoff, Pork Checkoff and Market Access Programs. The next Food, Hotel & Tourism Bali is set for March 8-10, 2012.
