U.S. Beef and Pork Showcased at Bangkok Foodservice Seminar
In collaboration with the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service, USMEF recently hosted about 50 Bangkok foodservice executives for a U.S. Meat Foodservice Seminar at the Cantara Grand Bangkok Hotel. The event, made possible through support from the Beef Checkoff and Pork Checkoff, also attracted participation from four wine importers.
Following introductory remarks by Orestes Vasquez, agricultural attaché with the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, attendees were presented with an overview of the U.S. beef and pork industries and the role USMEF plays in marketing these products. A presentation was provided on the U.S. beef grading system and the quality differences between grain-fed and grass-fed beef. Safety tips for handling and storing chilled and frozen beef were also presented, along with a cutting demonstration using U.S. chuck eye roll and a video presentation on beef merchandising.

The pork session highlighted a variety of processed U.S. pork products, including a culinary demonstration using pork sausages. A video presentation – U.S. Pork Production and Harvest – was also shown to participants.
Wine pairings were provided during a tasting session featuring both U.S. beef and pork products.
“This seminar really focused on a wide variety of aged and non-aged products and introduced some new, economical cuts to the region,” said Sabrina Yin, USMEF director for the ASEAN region. “The establishments represented came away with some excellent menu ideas featuring U.S. beef and pork.”
