Ukraine Postpones Sweeping Food Import Ban

Earlier this month, rumors began circulating about a possible Ukrainian ban on all imports of meat, dairy and fishery products from all exporting countries. Word has now been received that Ukrainian officials have issued a six-month postponement of this trade suspension.

Specifically, Ukraine’s chief state inspector of veterinary medicine has issued an official letter stating, “To ensure continuity of trade flows to Ukraine according to already signed contracts and to provide sufficient time for the inspection of foreign facilities, I order the postponement of the above-mentioned order about compulsory inspections until January 14, 2010.”
