UAE Likely to Impose 30-Month Age Limit on U.S. Beef
UAE Likely to Impose 30-Month Age Limit on U.S. Beef
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced its intention to impose a 30-month cattle age limit on imports of U.S. beef. Exporters shipping beef to the UAE are advised to use caution and to watch for an upcoming notice of this change in the FSIS Export Library.
After a series of events and miscommunications, the UAE has notified USDA that beef from cattle older than 30 months is not allowed. USMEF has been advised that the Export Library will be updated soon to reflect this information. While USMEF has requested that the effective date for this rule be the pack date for U.S. beef products, please be advised that this request has not yet been granted.
Imposition of a 30-month age limit by the UAE would also require an AMS-managed verification program, but details on this issue are not yet available.
USMEF will provide more information as it becomes available. Please contact Paul Clayton or Ann Spaeth at 303-623-6328 if you have questions.
