Published: Oct 01, 2023

A U.S. agribusiness delegation was in Santiago, Chile, last week, led by USDA Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Alexis Taylor. The team included representatives from the U.S. food and agriculture sectors, state departments of agriculture and representatives of the National Pork Board – North Carolina pork producers Jan Archer and Santiago Vasquez.

The trade mission included business-to-business meetings, market visits, networking opportunities and a visit to Espacio, Chile's major food show, where USMEF hosted a booth that included four Chilean importers.

With the trade delegation in Santiago for the week, USMEF brought Under Secretary Taylor, Archer and Vasquez to a launch event for USMEF member Hormel Foods International, where she provided remarks. Archer and Vasquez also observed a foodservice promotion for U.S. pork ribs at a wholesale store in Santiago.

USMEF and National Pork Board representatives accompanied Alexis Taylor, USDA under secretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs, to a launch reception hosted by Hormel Foods International, while in Santiago last week during a USDA trade mission. Taylor (holding the U.S. pork logo) is slated to be the keynote speaker at the USMEF Strategic Planning Conference in New Orleans.
