U.S. Pork Catches Attention Of New Year Shoppers
Di Hwa Street in Taipei is famous for its open-air food market. Each year, the city blocks the street from auto traffic 15 days prior to the Chinese New Year. Approximately 1 million people are attracted to Di Hwa Street for their New Year shopping, which is why USMEF promoted U.S. pork on Di Hwa Street during this time.
In cooperation with Tsan Jang Enterprise Co., Ltd., one of the top U.S. pork importers in Taiwan, USMEF promoted roasted U.S. pork ribs, pork sausages and pork tendons. Roasted onsite and vacuum packed, the pork ribs were the hottest gift items for New Year shoppers.
“On my way to a business trip to Kaohsiung, I saw people in the high-speed train station carrying the U.S. pork ribs,” said Cleo Fu, USMEF Taiwan marketing manger. “One of the shoppers said she lived in Chang Hwa, which is about 125 miles from Taipei. She said the pork ribs tasted so good that she bought 12 packages for New Year presents.”
U.S. Agriculture Trade Office Director Keith Schneller said it is clear that USMEF understands how to market U.S. meat products in Taiwan. Due to the success of the USMEF promotion, his office is going to encourage other U.S. agriculture partners to promote their products on Di Hwa Street next year.
