Taiwan Plans To Introduce Ractopamine Hydrochloride Residue Testing
Editor's Note: This information replaces what was previously sent on this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience.
The Taiwan government has indicated that it plans to introduce ractopamine hydrochloride into its national import residue testing program along with its domestic residue testing program. As Taiwan has not approved this substance for use domestically in swine or cattle, it has stated that it has a zero tolerance for residues in imported and in domestic products.
While unconfirmed, it has been indicated that Taiwan will begin testing a percentage of imported pork products within the next few days; the response to positive findings for ractopamine hydrochloride has not been confirmed and thus it is unclear whether it will result in shipment rejections and there is always the possibility of a complete ban on U.S. pork products.
