Taiwan Plans To Introduce Ractopamine Hydrochloride Residue Testing Program

The Taiwan government has indicated it plans to introduce ractopamine hydrochloride into its import and domestic residue testing programs. Since Taiwan has not approved this substance for domestic use in swine or cattle, it has stated there will be a zero tolerance for residues in imported and domestic products. While unconfirmed, it has been indicated that Taiwan will begin testing a percentage of imported pork products within the next few days. Positive findings of ractopamine hydrochloride in U.S. pork products have not been confirmed so it is unclear whether shipment rejections or a complete ban of U.S. pork products will occur.
