Ractopamine-Free Pork Muscle Meat Effective Date Delayed

USMEF reported two weeks ago that pork products in HS 0203 (muscle meat) classification destined for Taiwan needed to have an AIT approved document stating that the product was ractopamine-free if shipping date was on or after Sept. 15, 2007; this does not apply to offal products or any other pork products not in the 0203 classification. This date has been delayed as a result of U.S.-Taiwan meetings this week. Please keep in mind that Taiwan still holds to a zero tolerance for ractopamine in pork products and products in the 0203 classification are subjected to 100 percent testing for ractopamine; all other products are subjected to the random inspection process which is approximately 5 percent. USMEF does not know how long this requirement has been delayed, but will provide additional information next week.
