Joggers Find U.S. Beef Samples Worth The Wait

U.S. beef samples attracted thousands of joggers Monday (Oct. 23) at the 18th Mercuries Jogging Competition in Taipei. More than 200 pounds of U.S. boneless beef chuck short ribs were handed out within two hours. Joggers waited in line at the USMEF booth for at least 30 minutes for U.S. beef samples.

"Many who tried the U.S. beef came back to the booth and asked where they could purchase the product. Some even asked USMEF staff to sell them the raw materials we had at the booth," said Cleo Fu, USMEF Taiwan marketing manager.

U.S. boneless short ribs and chuck short ribs are the most popular cuts in Taiwan since the market reopened to U.S. beef last January. Many family-style restaurants have added these two cuts to their menus as the price is fair and more profitable than other cuts.

Taiwan is the third largest market for U.S. beef (excluding variety meat) through the first eight months of this year.
