Exports To Taiwan Cannot Be Labeled As “Destined For China”

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) advises U.S. packers that starting Wednesday (Aug. 8), Taiwan custom officials will not accept products labeled as "destined for China." Many packers put simplified Chinese labels on boxes noting export products are destined for China when the products actually are destined for Taiwan.

In the past, FSIS could issue a letter explaining the situation, but Taiwan custom officials notified AIT they will no longer accept a FSIS letter of explanation. U.S. packers must adhere to the labeling requirements when exporting products to Taiwan.

For more information, see the Labeling section of the Export Requirements for Taiwan in the FSIS Export Library.
