American Appeal Of U.S. Beef Increases Sales At Hotel Restaurant

A “Cowboy Night” promotion featuring USDA Prime roast beef was scheduled to run every Saturday night for three months at the steak house in the Grand Hi-Lai Hotel, the only five-star hotel in Southern Taiwan. With sales of U.S. beef exceeding expectations, hotel management decided to extend the popular Western promotion indefinitely.

A special menu featuring a chef cut 10-ounce piece of U.S. roast beef costs around US$35. The steak house is one of 13 restaurants in the hotel, which describes it as a classic steak house that “is the choice restaurant for discriminating gourmet lovers to feast on top quality American specialty steaks, lamb chops and chicken fillets.”

USMEF provided posters and banners to advertise the promotion, in addition to information about the American cowboy culture and how it can be used in promoting U.S. beef.

The Grand Hi-Lai Hotel is located in the city of Kaohsiung and overlooks the harbor. Its luxury and grand tower that looms over other buildings in the city draws international and local travelers alike.

Taiwan was the fifth largest export market for U.S. beef and beef variety meat in the first month of this year with a volume of 1,937 metric tons valued at $8.7 million.
