FSIS Publishes Taiwan BEV Requirements

Full details of the conditions for the reopening of the Taiwan market to U.S. beef were published Friday in the FSIS Export Library of Requirements. Eligible boneless beef must be produced under an approved AMS Beef Export Verification (BEV) program for Taiwan. Information about the BEV program for Taiwan and a list of BEV approved establishments will be posted shortly on the Agriculture Marketing Service (AMS) Export Verification Program Web site.

USMEF understands that the BEV program requirements for Taiwan will not be identical to the previous requirements when the market opened briefly last year. Exporters are therefore advised to read the new requirements very carefully. USMEF also understands that exporters will have to resubmit BEV programs for Taiwan to AMS before they can begin production.

Exporters are strongly cautioned to ensure that shipments of U.S. beef to Taiwan do not contain ineligible items. The USDA has been advised that findings of ineligible beef products in shipments to Taiwan will lead to the delisting of the supplier and the possible closure of the market for all U.S. beef products. USMEF is also aware that Taiwan will now undertake increased inspection of all imported U.S. red meat and poultry, and thus shippers of mixed meat, poultry and frozen food containers or shipments should confirm compliance with Taiwan beef, pork and poultry import requirements before shipping.
