USDA Advises U.S. Beef Exporters To Be Vigilant In Upcoming Months
USDA briefed the U.S. meat industry today on the progress made toward the finalization of the free trade agreement (FTA) and beef trade access.
USDA reports that past violations of the current beef trade agreement with South Korea has slowed down the process toward finalizing the FTA. As a result of each violation, an investigation and explanation has been required for the U.S. plants involved to continue shipping to South Korea.
If any violations occur after 2:30 p.m. Eastern time today (July 27), USDA will not request that South Korea lift any resulting suspensions of U.S. plants until the FTA and beef trade access issues are finalized.
USDA advises all exporters to be vigilant and careful when exporting U.S. beef products to South Korea, especially in the upcoming months so the two countries can finalize these important trade issues.
