U.S. Beef Has Big-League Taste, Consumers Learn
USMEF Korea cooperated with OSEN, a popular sports and entertainment news site in South Korea, last month to post a series of articles about beef served at Korean restaurants in the United States. The articles featured popular Korean athletes enjoying U.S. beef without hesitation or concern of BSE.
USMEF worked behind the scenes as OSEN correspondents captured Major League Baseball players like Chan-ho Park of the San Diego Padres and Byung-hyun Kim of the Colorado Rockies visiting restaurants to enjoy Korean dishes made with U.S. beef.
The articles included photos of the dishes, including bone-in cuts, and talked about the appealing taste and reasonable price of high quality U.S. beef.
Johnny Gu, owner of the restaurant Mudeungsan in Los Angeles said his Korean customers often comment how U.S. beef tastes better than Hanwoo, a high quality Korean beef. Gu said he uses prime grades of U.S. beef and the most popular menu items are rib-eye and kalbi, a Korean dish of marinated beef short ribs grilled tableside.
Most news from the OSEN site is reposted on other major portal sites throughout Korea.
