U.S. Beef Arrives, Quarantined For Inspection

An air cargo shipment of U.S. beef arrived Monday in Seoul and was quarantined for inspection purposes, which could take several days, USMEF has learned. South Korea National Veterinary Research & Quarantine Service (NVRQS) has said it will x-ray the shipment and may conduct an organoleptic test to ensure the shipment complies with trade requirements.

Three U.S. beef shipments were exported to South Korea between October and December last year, but all were rejected because they contained bone chips, which South Korea said was contrary to its bilateral agreement with the United States.

In March, South Korea agreed to send back only the packages found to contain bone fragments rather than the entire shipment.
