South Korean Beef Imports Recover Over 2004
South Korea imported 24,621 metric tons (mt) of beef in the first two months of 2005, according to South Korean figures, 55.6 percent more than the same period in 2004. Korean imports of Australian beef totaled 18,548, a 68.8 percent share.

South Korea imported 34,292 mt of pork in the first two months of 2005, a 43.1 percent increase year-on-year. The U.S. pork industry’s share of the import market was 19.7 percent, while Canada’s was 20.6 percent. The imports for Jan.-Feb., 2005 amounted to 30 percent of total 2004 imports, suggesting Korea will have a record year for pork imports in 2005. Imports of U.S. chilled pork were a record 542 mt for January and February. Imports of Chilean pork were 4,789 mt, a 14 percent market share.
